As it becomes clearer and clearer that
Clay Buchholz may miss the rest of the season, Boston is desperately on the lookout for more starting pitching at the trade deadline. In addition to discussions for
Matt Garza and
Bud Norris,
ESPN's Buster Olney reports that
the Red Sox are "doing background work" on White Sox starter Jake Peavey. Peavey just came off the DL and will start today against the Braves. This year, the oft-injured Peavey is 6-4 with a 4.30 ERA. Given his history, Boston will likely not need to part with top-tier prospects and might even get Chicago to kick in some of the big salary remaining on Peavey's contract.
