The Red Sox announced
two major developments among their pitching corps: 1.)
Andrew Bailey is done for the year, electing to have shoulder surgery on Wednesday; and 2.)
Clay Buchholz will travel to Florida today to get a second opinion from renowned arm guru
Dr. James Andrews. Bailey will be out at least 12 months—depending on the extent of his surgery and its anybody's guess what the prognosis on Buchholz will be. Some have surmised that this is just a "head check" for the righty—having the world's leading expert on arm injuries tell him he can't hurt himself anymore. In any event, Buccholz has missed so munch time (last pitching on June 8th) that even the most ambitious schedule wouldn't get him back in the rotation until mid- to late August. We still feel there is a good chance you won't see Clay on the mound any more in 2013.
