As reported by Evan Drellich of
MassLive.com, former Red Sox GM
Theo Epstein might be lusting after some of the outfield oversupply enjoyed by his old team. In exchange, the Cubs are offering one or more of the following pitchers as bait: starters
Scott Feldman and
Matt Garza, along with closer (and Red Sox nemesis)
Kevin Gregg. The potentially available outfield pieces from Boston include prospects
Bryce Brentz,
Jeremy Hazelbaker and
Alex Hassan. All three could be lost next year in the Rule 5 Draft, so it might be tempting to get something back for them now. Boston could face the possibility of nine or more outfielders on the 40-man roster in 2014 unless some are moved. So, look for old buddies Theo,
Jed Hoyer and
Ben Cherington to engage in some horse-trading soon.
