| Headed To Tommy John? |
Like a bolt out of the blue,
the possibility has arisen that Joel Hanrahan may need Tommy John surgery. According to the
Globe's Peter Abraham, Hanrahan is seeking a second opinion from famed elbow specialist Dr. James Andrews. The Red Sox initial diagnosis was a "flexor muscle strain". If, in fact, it is more (like a torn ulnar collateral ligament), then it's probably the knife for Joel. Ironically, the Red Sox came into this season with
two legitimate closer candidates—now they may be desperately seeking number three.
