Ryan Dempster (who turns 36 today) got his second straight win (after struggling to get a victory early in the season) as Boston won yet another series,
edging the Blue Jays, 3-1. Dempster hurled six quality innings, giving up just one earned run—a lead-off home run to
Brett Lawrie. The crafty veteran worked in and out of a few jams, but retired 10 of the final 11 batters he faced. He walked three and struck out four. The Sox went ahead for good with two runs in the second—sparked by a
Mike Napoli double and a
Mike Carp RBI single. Later,
Stephen Drew drove in
Will Middlebrooks with a sac fly.
Jacoby Ellsbury knocked in the third run in the sixth. Boston now leads the world in pretty much everything, matching their best early season record since 2002.
