Clay Buchholz carried a no-hitter into the eighth inning, but lost the bid on a broken bat single. The
Red Sox, however, won the game, 5-0. Buchholz ended up yielding just two hits, while striking out a career-high 11 for his third victory of 2013. Buchholz was using his full arsenal of pitches to stymie the Rays, and aside from four walks, was never really in any trouble all day. The offense was sparked by a two-run double by
Mike Napoli to the deepest part of center field.
Dustin Pedroia also had three hits in the tilt and scored a run. Buchholz now has an ERA of 0.41. On to Patriots Day!
