The anticipated duel of lefty aces actually transpired at Fenway today, and
the Red Sox prevailed in 10 innings, 2-1.
Jon Lester and
David Price matched each other through most of the game, giving up just one run apiece. Boston's equalizer was a literal Monster shot by
David Ross over everything in left on a 'do-nothing' Price change-up. After
Joel Hanrahan walked the first two men in the ninth, manager
John Farrell showed the backbone to lift his struggling closer for
Koji Uehara, who promptly got out of the jam. In the bottom of the tenth,
Shane Victorino singled in
Jacoby Ellsbury from third with the winning walk-off run.
