Sox Announce PA Troika To Replace Carl Beane

The untimely death of Carl Beane last May—the booming PA voice of the Red Sox—led to a wide-ranging search for a successor. The team settled on three new voices instead of one. Long-time unofficial Red Sox Poet Laureate Dick Flavin will handle most day games; legendary sports anchor Bob Lobel will do Saturday games and Charlestown High School History teacher Henry Mahegan will do night games. Red Sox PR Guru Dr. Charles Steinberg (AKA 'The Mad Dentist'), hinted that the competition may not be over for a permanent single-voice option, "It is possible that one person will emerge, but at this point, these three voices and personalities each bring sound, color, and history to Fenway Park." A total of 342 people tried out for the position.
