A Troubling Outage On Red Sox Power Grid?
Your 2013 Carmine Hose took two of three games from the Evil Ones in the Bronx. So, we shouldn't really be belly-aching about much. However, we are Red Sox fans. And, as the inestimable Alex Speier of WEEI.com points out, Boston has yet to go yard in its first three games for the first time since 1993. Moreover, they were dead last in home runs among all 30 teams in Spring Training. Of course, the absence of their biggest deep threat (David Ortiz) has a lot to do with this. But, are there other issues behind this dearth of power? The Sox do seem to be composed of a bunch of new players who are more likely to play base-to-base small ball, but that might not cut it in the AL East long-term. We need to see consistent pop from sources like Will Middlebrooks, Jarrod Saltalamacchia, Mike Napoli, Jacoby Ellsbury (a la 2011) and even Dustin Pedroia if this team is to seriously contend for a second Wild Card.
