Three years ago, the Red Sox paid
Anthony Ranaudo $2.25 million as a supplemental first-round pick from LSU. His "upside" was said to be infinite. A couple of years of poor performance and a raft of injuries had cooled the ardor of the Carmine Hose. This year, however,
Ranaudo is experiencing a major resurgence at AA Portland. The 6'-7" 23-year old has posted a sick 0.83 ERA in 21 2/3 innings over four starts. He has a 5.2:1 strikeout-to-walk ratio and a WHIP of 0.74. Opponents are hitting just .159. The 'future' may come soon for Ranaudo.
