Organizational guidelines be damned.
Jackie Bradley, Jr. needs to come north with the big club in 2013. The Red Sox have a history of keeping talent in the minors too long—going at least as far back as
Wade Boggs. The team now has a ready-made excuse for breaking its own rules—the obvious injury woes of
David Ortiz. He will not make Opening Day, so put Bradley in left and platoon the DH role with
Jonny Gomes and
whomever. Who cares? We need Bradley in the lineup
now. Just today, Bradley has homered (on the first pitch of the game), doubled in a run and walked (and the game's not over yet!). The kid is now 13 for 25 on the Spring. For those of you in the hill towns of Western Massachusetts, that's a .520 average. This kid is ready. Let him stay.
