David Ortiz To Be Shut Down For Up To A Week
Due to continued "heel soreness", David Ortiz will be completely shut down for 5-7 days. Red Sox manager John Farrell announced on Sunday that the designated hitter—recovering from a July 2012 right Achilles tendon injury—will be rested to "quiet down" the soreness before re-starting baseball activities. Said Farrell, "It's separate from any kind of previous issues that he dealt with. It's in the bone-tendon juncture, where he's feeling the inflammation." Ortiz has hardly done any baseball activity this Spring—aside from limited batting practice and simulated baserunning. Once again, without Ortiz's bat in the middle of the Red Sox lineup, they present little threat to American League pitching staffs.
