We have received our initial 2013 preseason reading from the Dalton Jones Industrial Average Panel, and the results show a "raw score" of 60.5 (out of a maximum possible score of 100.0). This number will be normalized and set to 100.0 as the benchmark reading for the remainder of the 2013 season. Readings higher or lower than the benchmark will be reported once a month through September. For comparative purposes, the initial "raw score" collected before last season was a more optimistic 65.1—4.6 points higher than this year's score. And, our DJIA pre-season reading before the 2011 season was a whopping 77.6—17.1 points higher than today's. This year's individual raw scores were: starting pitching—62.1; relief pitching—70.5; total offense—51.6; total defense—57.9.
