A-Gon's Dad Suing MLB For Mexican Player
The father of former Red Sox first-baseman Adrian Gonzalez is suing Major League Baseball over an alleged infringement on the rights of a Mexican ballplayer he represents. David Gonzalez is suing on behalf of a Mexican pitcher named Daniel Pesqueira. The 18-year old Pesqueira was set to sign a contract with the Red Sox after working out in Fort Myers in 2012. Then, a phone call let him know that he was headed back to Mexico because he was the 'property' of the Mexico City Diablos Rojos. Until that moment, Pesqueira had no idea that he had supposedly signed a "contract" with the Mexican team—thinking a document his Dad signed was just permission for the youngster to travel with the team. The outcome of the lawsuit could have huge implications for the odd relationship between MLB and the Liga Mexicana de Beisbol (LMB). Also at risk is a planned international draft. Stay tuned!
