Multiple reports suggest that Red Sox lefty
Franklin Morales may be drawing interest from the Washington Nationals as a potential starter. While Morales worked mostly out of the bullpen for Boston in 2012, he has the kind of stuff (96 MPH fastball) that might translate well into a starting role. The doubt surrounding
Gio Gonzalez's alleged PED use could logically spark interest in Morales by the Nats. However, as
federalbaseball.com's Patrick Reddington points out, Washington GM
Mike Rizzo usually disclaims any interest in players that are floated in the media. Nevertheless, Morales would make sense fo
r the Nats—and considering the excess in the Sox 'pen, it would make sense for Boston as well.
