Stop us if you've heard this before, but
Alfredo Aceves did something weird today. When asked to pitch live batting practice,
Aceves simply lobbed the ball to Jarrod Saltalmacchia, Jonny Gomes and Mauro Gomez. Why? No one is quite sure. Manager
John Farrell asked Aceves if he was feeling OK. New pitching coach
Juan Nieves eventually walked to the mound, talked with Alfredo, and that seemed to do the trick. Aceves began throwing the ball at game speed. Said Farrell, “The one thing I’ll say about that is that he didn't go through the drill as intended and we've addressed it." File this under: no surprise.
