John Farrell thinks John Lackey could have as big an impact on the 2013 Carmine Hose as anyone else on the entire roster. So said the new Red Sox manager on
WEEI's Hot Stove show on Thursday. Lackey has been a huge disappointment so far for Boston, performing at a level far below his $82 million price tag. After missing 2012 rehabbing from Tommy John surgery, Lackey has a chance to put all his Red Sox demons to rest with a return to the form we saw when he tortured us as a member of the Angels. By all accounts, Lackey is a positive force in the clubhouse—although his alleged involvement in
ChickenAndBeerGate makes you wonder. If he
does bounce back, it could transform the Sox starting rotation and we could be a surprisingly better team. For that to happen, we need to hear fewer "for sures" in his interviews, no showing up of his fielders when they err, and a sub-4.00 ERA.
