Sox #5 Starter In 2013? |
Rob Bradford of
WEEI.com is reporting that
the Red Sox will be scouting 36-year old starting pitcher Javier Vazquez on Friday in Puero Rico. Vazquez will be pitching a playoff game for Caguas in the Puerto Rican Winter League. The righty last pitched in the bigs in 2011 for the Marlins, and delivered a respectable 13-11, with a 3.69 ERA. Vazquez is nothing if not a workhorse, having made
at least 25 starts for 14 straight years. I don't know why, but I actually like this move. Slotting Vasquez in as the #5 starter behind Buchholz, Lester, Dempster and Lackey makes some kind of weird sense. No doubt a 3-year, $39 million contract will be offered.
