According to a report by
ESPN's Jim Bowden,
the Red Sox are trying to recalibrate their previous three-year agreement with Mike Napoli down to a one-year deal. Obviously, the hip issue is the stumbling block to consummating this deal—although
Ben Cherington (as late as tonight) still talks hopefully about reaching an agreement with Napoli. One compromise could be a one-year deal, with a second option year triggered by a minimum number of plate appearances.
