MLB is focusing on "wellness clinics" in South Florida as key outposts in the distribution of performance-enhancing drugs in baseball. League security officials have fanned out across the region to track down sources of banned HGH and testosterone. The DEA is working in conjunction with baseball officials to investigate any ties to players. The operator of one clinic in Coral Gables has been linked—according to the
New York Daily News—to current Yankee
Alex Rodriguez and former Yankee
Melky Cabrera. He had also been linked to former Red Sox player
Manny Ramierz. The investigation could spill into the 2013 season and may result in a number of players being named as involved with the clinics. Stay tuned.
