Former Red Sox first-base prospect
Lars Anderson was designated for assignment today by the Arizona Diamondbacks. After the trade of
Justin Upton, the D'Backs needed to clear roster space, and Anderson was the odd man out. For years, Anderson was considered the heir apparent to the Boston first base job, but never really reached his potential in the Sox system. The Sox traded Anderson to the Indians last year for knuckleballer
Steven Wright. Ironically, Anderson might be a cheap insurance pick-up for Boston as they look to back-up
Mike Napoli at first.
