Internet Baseball Writers Pick Piazza For HOF
The Internet Baseball Writers Association Of America (IBWAA)—of which FenwayNation is a member—has picked Mike Piazza as their only selection for the Hall Of Fame. Piazza was chosen on 79.10% of the ballots. Craig Biggio finished second with 64.18%. Roger Clemens received votes on 52.24% of ballots—finishing in third position. Jeff Bagwell, who was earlier today selected as the only inductee by the Baseball Bloggers Alliance, got 50.75% in this voting—putting him in a flat-footed tie with Barry Bonds for fourth place. Curt Schilling
was chosen on 28.36% of the ballots. Piazza finished his 16-year career with a .308 batting average, clouting 427 home runs to go along with more than 2,100 hits. His lifetime OPS was .922. It will be interesting to see if the two choices (Piazza and Bagwell) of these unofficial bodies are mirrored in the actual voting of the Baseball Writers' Association of America (BBWAA)—the results of which will be released on Wednesday.
