Soon To Be A Buc? |
A report by
USA Today's John Perrotto indicates that
the Pittsburgh Pirates are asking the Red Sox for defensive shortstop whiz Jose Iglesias in a deal for closer Joel Hanrahan. The Red Sox—who reportedly prize
Xander Bogaerts over Igleisas—can afford to deal from strength from the shortstop position to get Hanrahan. Moreover, with the recent addition of
Stephen Drew they have even more protection going into 2013. The Pirates actually have a record of prying away Red Sox middle infielders with good success. Three years after they got
Freddy Sanchez from the Red Sox (for
Brandon Lyon and
Jeff Suppan), he won the National League batting title. This is a deal that should get done—a quality closer for a guy whose offense Boston has never felt confident about.
