The Red Sox have always considered
Cody Ross a "back pocket", last-minute option to solve their remaining outfield hole. The theory has been that Ross would not get other serious multi-year offers, and Boston would be around in the end to offer a return. Well, that's why they call them theories.
The New York Metropolitans are now expressing interest in Ross—who has been seeking a three-year, $25 million deal. Reports suggest that the Mets will more likely offer a two-year pact, but that might be enough to lure him away from Fenway. Stay tuned.
