Multiple reports suggest that free-agent first baseman
Adam LaRoche (who is likely to decline his qualifying offer from Washington) is being sought after by his old team and the Red Sox and Rangers.
A three-way competition will raise the price for the 33-year old Gold Glover and make him more likely to extract a multi-year deal. It's unclear how far the Red Sox are willing to go on both money and contract length, but they
should go pretty far. The pickings are pretty slim after LaRoche—most notably
Mike Napoli.
