According to a report in the
Boston Herald,
Mike Napoli wants to have "regular catching duties" and not simply a 1B/DH/C rotation with his next team. This would seem to rule out the Red Sox as a landing spot—since Napoli would likely be asked to primarily be a first baseman. Also, the fact that Boston just signed
David Ross to a 2-year deal—and announced it was not just as a back-up—seems to completely rule out Napoli. With three catchers now on the roster it's likely one will be dealt, but even then, there seems no way to satisfy Napoli's wishes.
