Red Sox President and CEO
Larry Lucchino appeared on
WEEI's Dennis and Callahan Morning Show this morning and hinted that
the team is more concerned with the length of potential free agent contracts than dollar amounts. This would play into the the popular notion that the team might overwhelm a player like—say—
Josh Hamilton with a one- or two-year deal for—say—$30 million a year. When directly confronted with that
generic scenario (no specific player or dollar amount), Lucchino said the following:
"In certain situations it may be a way to attract someone." Hmm.
