According to ESPN Boston's Gordon Edes,
the Red Sox and David Ortiz have agreed to a two-year deal for the Boston designated hitter—only the financial framework is yet to be worked out. The term of the agreement has always been the stumbling block in the past, so the fact that the ownership agreed to this is an indication that they could not endure the PR hit of losing one of the most popular players in franchise history. A formal announcement of a new deal could come as early as Friday.
