One of the few highlights of the 2012 season was the play of 24-year old Red Sox third baseman
Will Middlebrooks. In light of his performance, the editors of FenwayNation have named Middlebrooks as their
2012 Rookie Of The Year. Despite breaking his wrist after being hit by an
Esmil Rogers fastball in early August, Middlebrooks managed to put together a terrific season—hitting .288 with 15 HRs and 54 RBIs in just 75 games. Had he been healthy the entire season, he would have projected to 32 HRS and 117 RBIs. Middlebrooks demonstrated a mature plate demeanor and a quick, powerful stroke that have Red Sox fans eager to see him at the hot corner full-time in 2013 and beyond. He joins
Josh Reddick (2011) and
Ryan Kalish (2010) as previous winners of the FenwayNation Rookie Of The Year award.
