Bobby Valentine famously described his Seattle confab with John Henry as characterized by "cold oatmeal" and overcooked ham. You couldn't find a better metaphor for this dismal 2012 season. On the final day, the Red Sox were humiliated yet again by their Gotham rivals—
eviscerated 14-2 in the last start of the Daisuke Matsuzaka Era. Dice-K went 2 1/3—giving up 5 runs on six hits (
exactly as predicted by the psychic Jon Metaparel of WEEI one day earlier). Valentine will be gone by Noon Friday—or sooner, and the rebuilding process will begin in earnest. Not a second too soon.
