The Once And Future Farrell? |
According to a report by
Nick Cafardo of the
Boston Globe,
former Red Sox pitching coach John Farrell is Boston's top choice to manage the team in 2013. Two key issues play into this scenario: 1.) the Red Sox
already have a manager under contract for 2013—one Robert Valentine; 2.) snaring John Farrell from Toronto would require significant compensation—since
he is under contract throgh next year. Interestingly, the
Punto Trade was incomplete because the Blue Jays claimed one of the centerpieces of the deal—pitcher
Rubby De La Rosa—off waivers before the Boston-LAD transaction took place. De La Rosa would likely be Toronto's first choice for compensation—a newly-acquired prize the Sox do
not want to give up. Eating Bobby V.'s 2013 salary is, obviously, less of a barrier. All of this intrigue should make for an interesting week-end series at Fenway—with Farrell and his last-place Jays in town.
