Balance Of Red Sox Season Is 'Cold Oatmeal'

As we prepare for The Three-Game Battle For Last Place in the American League East, even the Pink Hat Brigade will find it hard to get all goose-bumpy about the Carmine Hose. Bobby Valentine's sarcastic characterization of his Breakfast With John Henry (we get you, Bobby) is an apt descriptor of the last month of this 2012 season: "cold oatmeal". In fact, it's a good metaphor for the entire 2012 season. Decades from now, when you try to recall how The Olde Towne Team did in 2012, "cold oatmeal" will tell you everything you want to know. From the surly attitude of the players, to the detachment of the ownership group, to the 'Looney Tunes' moods of Bobby V.—all "cold oatmeal". So, for the final 24 games of this benighted season, sit back in your easy chair, prop up your legs and swill down that cold oatmeal—with no brown sugar.
