In order to bolster a thin bullpen,
the Red Sox recalled reliever Clayton Mortensen from Pawtucket. In a corollary move, Vicente Padilla (who needed another days' rest due to bicep issues) was placed on the disabled list. Mortensen has pitched extremely effectively in his 23 innings with the big club this year, and should help beef up the back end of the 'pen until reinforcements (where are you Daniel Bard and Andrew Bailey?) arrive. Mortensen has a 1.17 ERA this year with Boston, and has fanned 17.
