What does it tell you when a team knocks out 20 hits and loses? Probably crappy pitching, right? Bingo. Boston fell behind 3-0 in the first inning, recovered and took a commanding 9-3 lead, but the bullpen could not hold the mighty Kansas City Royals. Andrew Miller and Mark Melancon coughed up 6 runs in the seventh (helped by a pathetic misplay by Cody Ross), and then Junichi Tazawa gave up the game-winner in the twelfth for a
10-9 Royals win. So, the first official game in the
Post-Apocalyptic Trade Era goes into the books as a loss.
