REPORT: Shoppach Was Proxy Text Messenger

Now, the 2012 Red Sox can be compared to the famed story of Cyrano de Bergerac (see pic). According to a report in the New York Daily News, Kelly Shoppach was the primary author of the infamous text message to ownership—but it was composed on the cellphone of Adrian Gonzalez! A group of disgruntled Red Sox players—including Shoppach—wanted to convey their displeasure with Valentine to ownership. They decided that if the message came from Gonzo—the highest paid player on the team—it would carry more weight. So, the message—mostly written by the departed catcher—was sent on Gonzalez's cell phone. Funny, I never thought Shoppach's nose was that big. Of course, in keeping with this Watergate-like mess, the new Mets catcher denies any involvement in the text message plot.
