Red Sox shortstop prospect
Xander Bogaerts has been at AA Portland for just ten games. In
seven of those games, he's compiled multiple hits. And he's hit safely in nine of ten. This kid is
really good, and is proving it by dominating guys who are way ahead of him at the AA level. As
WEEI.com's Alex Speier points out, his Sea Dog numbers are: .390 average, .405 on-base, .756 slugging and 1.161 OPS. Ridiculous! But his overall
August numbers (across both Single A and Double A) are even crazier: .448/.479/.791/1.270. It's becoming pretty obvious that 'Bogie' is lapping the many other solid SS prospects in the organization—including
Jose Iglesias. This is a good problem to have—as Bogaerts is big enough to possibly transition to third base or the outfield if the Sox hang on to Iglesias and/or others.
