ESPN is quoting sources that indicate
Carl Crawford will have season-ending Tommy John elbow surgery on Tuesday. Since the recovery period for positional players undergoing Tommy John is usually 6-9 months, Crawford can realistically be expected to return to the 2013 squad next May. Reportedly, Crawford was hesitant to have the surgery before now for fear of fan wrath. This is just the latest in the frustrating saga of Boston's $142 million left-fielder.
