Crawford To Have 'Tommy John' On Thursday

What we all knew would happen, will happen on Thursday. The Red Sox officially announced that Carl Crawford will undergo season-ending Tommy John surgery on his elbow. The 6-9 month rehab period will get him back sometime early in 2013—assuming everything goes well. Of course, a Red Sox medical situation going well is the exception, not the rule. This is a decision that should have been made in Spring Training. It is also a de facto waving of the "white flag" on the 2012 season (see pic). How many season ticket holders do you think will pony up thousands of dollars for playoff tickets when the NOG sends their "kiss in the mail" in a few weeks?
