Crawford To Ask Sox For 'Tommy John' Now

Joy R. Absalon-US PRESSWIRE
According to The Globe's Peter Abraham, Carl Crawford will ask the Red Sox next week to authorize Tommy John surgery on his ailing elbow soon—allowing him to return at full health early in the 2013 season. With any hopes of the Red Sox making the post-season fading fast, it would make eminent sense to do the surgery now. While Crawford has been hot of late, it's in his and the team's best interest to make the move as soon as possible. Crawford is apparently concerned that fans will feel negatively toward him if he ends his season early. Our guess is just the opposite.
