Cody Ross Walks-Off With Three-Run Home Run |
Cody Ross has earned his 2012 salary. In the last two days. Ross clouted his
third three-run homer in two games, a walk-off shot into the Monster Seats,
to give the Red Sox a 3-1 win over Chicago. Until the 6th inning, the Red Sox had just one hit against young Jose Quintana. Nearly as good a performance was delivered by Clay Buchholz—eight innings and just one earned run. But it was the drama in the 9th that was the essence of this game. Carl Crawford led off the final frame with a single off left-hander Matt Thornton. After Pedroia grounded into a force out, Adrian Gonzalez singled to right against Thornton. In came the fire-balling White Sox closer. Up stepped Ross—a dead fast-ball pull hitter. Bring on the glory.
