According to multiple reports,
the Red Sox are now focusing on Matt Garza and have moved on from his Cubbie teammate, Ryan Dempster. The rationale is that Dempster—who hits free agency at the end of the year—would only be a "rental", while Garza would be under control through 2013 (as an arbitration eligible player). Additionally, Dempster has made it known that he'd like to stay in the National League. Plus, Garza's gritty experience in the American league East would be a plus for Boston as it
tries to stay in the hunt for the second Wild Card.
