Pedro Ciriaco and Mauro Gomez, two minor league free agents, fueled the Red Sox to a 9-5 nightcap win over the Empire (after dropping the first game of the twin bill , 6-1). The two combined to go 7-9—with Ciriaco clearing the bases with a three-run double.

Adrian Gonzalez collected three more hits to extend his hitting streak. Boston now stands 8 1/2 games behind the Evil Ones and can crawl back to where they started the series (7 1/2 out) with a win on Sunday.
