Papi 'Humiliated' And 'Embarrassed' By Contract

P'od Papi Pops Off
David Ortiz clouted his 400th career HR, and then whined to USA Today about being offered arbitration in the off-season by the Red Sox. He ended up with a $14.575 million, one-year deal. Oh, the disrespect! Is the big guy kidding us, or what? Is he that out-of-touch with a fan base struggling to make ends meet while he complains about being a multi-millionaire? Nice timing, David. Here are his exact words, lest we be charged with being unfair:

"It was humiliating. There's no reason a guy like me should go through that. All I was looking for was two years, at the same salary ($12.5 million). They ended up giving me $3 million more than that (actually $2.025 million), and look at my numbers this year. Tell me if they wouldn't have been better off. And yet they don't hesitate to sign other guys. It was embarrassing."

So now he's threatening to leave the Red Sox next year. We never thought we'd say this about the guy, but: "Buddy, shut up and hit."
