Sox CEO Larry Lucchino |
While many in the mainstream sports media have poo-pooed the Bob Nightingale-fueled speculation about a blockbuster Carl Crawford-Hanley Ramirez deal,
Sox President and CEO Larry Lucchino did nothing to dispel the rumors on Thursday. Appearing on
WEEI’s Dennis and Callahan Morning Show, Lucchino said that General Manager Ben Cherington has been empowered to be "bold" around the July 31st trade deadline. Reiterating the view that the team feels it is "in the hunt" this year, Lucchino invoked the 2004 Nomar Garciaparra trade as evidence of the NOG's boldness in the past. This deal actually makes some sense for both sides, so don't be surprised if it comes to fruition.
