Sox Show Interest In D'Backs' Stephen Drew
According to Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports, the Red Sox are among a handful of teams who have expressed interest in Arizona shortstop Stephen Drew—the brother of former Boston right-fielder J.D. Drew. The younger Drew is just off a very long stint on the DL (dating back to last season). The 29-year old Drew is a .268 hitter over seven seasons in the bigs and is an above average, but not stellar, defender. Why are the Red Sox coveting shortstops this year (Drew and Hanley Ramirez), when their system is over-stocked at the position? Moreover, Mike Aviles—while not exactly Troy Tulowitski—has held his own at short this year. Curious.
