The Red Sox found themselves in a 5-0 hole thanks to a first-inning meltdown by Josh Beckett, then evened the score against Hiroki Kuroda in the bottom half of the inning. They actually led 7-6 late in the game, but succumbed to lousy bullpen outings by Andrew Miller and Vicente Padilla—
losing 10-8 and falling 8 1/2 behind the Evil Ones.
Both David Ortiz and Salty were offensive stars, but, who cares? We're in the deepest hole of the year and have three more games with New York this weekend.
