Despite getting a second opinion that confirmed the first opinion (no tear or rupture to the Achilles tendon),
David Ortiz was placed on the 15-day Disabled List. The Red Sox feel the DH needs at least 10 days of rest to fully heal the injury, and retroactively set the start of the stint to Tuesday. No decision has been made as to who will fill his roster spot—although Ryan Lavarnway would be the most logical choice.
