The Red Sox scored five of their seven runs on home runs, clouting three round-trippers off Mark Buehrle for the first time in three years. David Ortiz hit #17, Cody Ross hit #9 and Kelly Shoppach connected on his fourth as Boston powered up with ten hits against the veteran Marlin left-hander. Clay Buchholz had another "vulture" win—reverting back to his early season form—going six innings and yielding five earned runs.

Rookie Will Middlebrooks knocked in a run with his eighth double and his counterpart Ryan Kalish had an adventure and a half in center field—misplaying two fly balls and making good plays on two others. Once again, the unheralded bullpen gave up no runs in three innings—with Matt Albers freezing a runner on third with no outs. In the end, it was a 7-5 Sox win—moving again over .500 (34-33).
