Red Sox Are Painfully "Bard" in Toronto

This wasn't just a bad start—it was a pitifully bad start. Daniel Bard pitched 1 2/3 innings, giving up five runs on just one hit (a three-run homer), six walks and two hit batsmen. A stinker to end all stinkers. The hole was far too big to dig out from—as somebody named Drew Hutchison held Boston to just one run over seven innings. Boston's only offense was a solo home run by Kelly Shoppach. The most exciting moment was an almost-charge-of-the-mound by a plunked Kevin Youkilis. The end result was a 5-1 setback in the Great White North. So, the juggernaut assault on first place in the AL East will have to wait for another day.
