Mark Melancon was the reason the Red Sox traded Jed Lowrie to Houston. At the risk of being called negative, we need to point out that Lowrie has 12 HRs and is hitting .297. But, we're supposed to ignore that. OK. Melancon has shown that he's a quality reliever, even a competent closer. His debut in Boston was less than auspicious—49.50 ERA—but he has proven his worth by posting an astounding 0.83 ERA over more than 20 innings at Pawtucket. He deserves to be inserted back into a suddenly more shaky bullpen. He will be joining the big club today. (Positive enough for everybody?)
